Congrats! - CCC Energy Survey Classes of 1/8/18 & 1/16/18

Special shout out to the latest set of cohorts from the CCC Energy Corps that have completed their Energy Survey training!  January was a busy month as Sierra College and the CCC pushed out back-to-back training.   One CCC training center in Norwalk, CA and the other at Sierra College's Nevada City Campus.

The NCC training marked the beginning of Sierra College hosting the Energy Survey training on its campus.  This presented a lot of fresh new survey opportunities for the students.  Special thanks to Donna Brazil-Bloche of Sierra College for providing top-notch support during the training.

Congratulations everyone!  Good luck in your next step in your energy training with the upcoming lighting and retrofit classes.

Floating Solar Panels

One of my students brought in an article that described floating solar panels.  The idea was to use water areas that won't intrude on the surrounding area but rather take advantage of already modified human space. PV panels have negative thermal drift.  In other words, they lose efficiency when the temperature increases.  So having access to an immediate source for cooling does wonders for the panel efficiency. The article featured a company called Solaris Syndergy , but was dated last year.   So I decided to take a look to see how far the innovation has come.   Looking into their product, I realized that they solution is centered around CSP.  However, I was able to find another company that uses reflectors and PV panels. Being a Serious Generation

Every so often, I will share some of my dialogue between my classmates. It’s better to get a third perspective from my audience than to rely on who typed the last period. A classmate had asked, “Do you think society takes environmental matters seriously?” So, here is the argument behind their question. If society actually cared enough about the environment, there wouldn’t be so many challenges to get all the players to agree on at least moving towards the use of renewables and the application of sustainability. My response: “I would say that society and the current generations may not take the environmental matters seriously (or at least at levels necessary to make a drastic difference).
