Energy Lab Progress and Planning for the Future

Over the past few months, Energy Career Path has been working on the design and build of an energy lab for a client here in Sacramento.  The lab will come equipped with several stations that will give the organization the ability to teach energy surveys, lighting retrofit, and electrical fundamentals.

For reflection, here is what the training room looked like prior to the start of the project:

Here is the team showcasing elements of the progress of the project:

Safety was considered a priority in the design of the training stations.  Here, we have installed GFCI's dedicated to each station.

When the project is complete, the lab will be able to accommodate the organization's existing energy survey and lighting retrofit training.  However, the lab will improve on the troubleshooting labs as well as enhance their residential wiring class with newer scenarios to round off the training.

Planning the Design
(focus, function, future-proofing)

When working with any organization, it's important to stay true to the organization's mission and only introduce ideas and concepts that complement their goals.  It would not benefit the organization for us to introduce every possible training class around energy/renewables.  Instead, the development of the training needs to be sensitive to the organization's capacity, function, and plans for growth.

When the team initially sat down with the organization, the plan was to build the lab to fit the fundamental training that they have been doing for several years.   ECP worked with the organization to plan beyond their traditional training and focus on the evolution of the market and current trends in technology.  This included developing plans for electrical vehicle (EV) and battery/storage technology.  With that approach, the lab has been designed to be able to transition into EV, battery/storage, as well as solar training.

We hope to implement the EV/storage/solar augments in 2021.

Stay tuned for more updates on current and future projects.
